The Cloisters

The Cloisters  January 5, 2019

As promised, a plant-focused brief review of a visit to The Cloisters. Thanks to Stuart for taking and having the photos sent.  Though it was a rainy day, eventually visitors, and a surprising number of very young, adorable children, showed up.  Free entrance on the first weekend of a month with a Bank of America card.

Though the magnificent art and the impressive buildings and the beautiful view and the desirable site are usually the focus of a visit to The Cloisters, part of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, as a blog of native plants of the New York Botanical Garden, the photos are to entice you to visit.  Any time of year, but wait until the spring to be able to appreciate the outdoor gardens. The horticultural staff is obviously talented, which I say after seeing the indoor plants looking absolutely vibrant.  Even a flowering bloom (is that redundant?) of a dianthus/carnation plant had a fresh, delightful aroma.

You can find all the history you might want to know by looking online, so I won't do any excessive writing here.   Enjoy.

The Cloisters  January 5, 2019
Wonderful plants maintained by the horticultural staff, writeup and photos to follow.

NPG January 10, 2019
'Twas a cold and windy night whilst dusk was falling for this visit to the Native Plant Garden. There was one body peering at the huddled plants, besides me, Edna and Laszlo in the NPG; a rosy sky; two stalwart ducks in the water feature; a plane passing overhead; a sliver of moon and the way the Native Plant Garden looks in the winter.

With twinkling lights welcoming Patrons to the Holiday Train Show, the Garden was beautiful. Security, photographers, senior staff, waiters, guests all in charming, accommodating mode. Drinks and food flowing freely.
My judgment of the placement of the incredibly put together buildings was that it was more creative and attractive than ever.

Probably because I was wearing my docent id, I was asked questions about the plants.
JUST PROVES MY REQUEST TO HAVE ROAMING DOCENTS AT THIS AND OTHER SPECIAL EVENTS TO POINT OUT THE GARDEN'S QUALITY ATTRACTIONS AND PARTICULARLY FOR THIS EVENT THE DETAILS OF THE BUILDINGS' CONSTRUCTION.

This takes me too many hours to do because the technology defeats me and the photos jump all over the place!
